Daiki Suisan - RARE, AFFORDABLE QUALITY SUSHI

🍣 Chain presentation

Daiki Suisan (大起水産) is a Japanese restaurant chain specializing in sushi served on conveyor belts (kaitenzushi), renowned for the freshness of its seafood. Originally from the Kansai region, it has several establishments in Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe, often near major railway stations or shopping malls.

📍 Regional presence

Daiki Suisan restaurants are found mainly in Kansai. In Kyoto, one of the most easily accessible is located in the AEON Mall Kyoto, not far from the main railway station.

🍽️ What can we eat?

In addition to classics like salmon, tuna and shrimp, Daiki Suisan offers a wide range of white fish, seasonal seafood, grilled sushi and sashimi. You can also order hot dishes such as tempura, udon and miso soup.

📱 Order at Daiki

Dishes circulate on a conveyor belt, but it is also possible to order by the unit from the staff. Some restaurants are equipped with touch screens, while others use an old-fashioned system of oral ordering. The screen allows you to choose a few options (with or without wasabi, quantity of rice).

👨‍👩‍👧 Personal experience

We went to the restaurant located on Shinkyogoku Street, near the Shijo-Kawaramachi crossroads. We entered the restaurant at around 1pm on a weekday in June, and were able to get in without waiting. Inside, the restaurant was almost completely full. Inside the restaurant, there are two types of seating:
counter seats directly in front of the conveyor belt on which the sushi circulates, and classic tables for four, separated from the belt. Today, there are many affordable sushi chains and restaurants.
Formerly known as “conveyor-belt sushi” (kaiten-zushi), most of these establishments no longer have continuously rotating sushi. Instead, they now adopt a system where you order directly via a tablet installed at the table. However, in this restaurant, if you sit at the counter, you can enjoy the traditional system with sushi running on a conveyor belt.
The plates actually pass in front of you, just like in classic kaiten-zushi. When you’re seated at the counter, you can pick up a plate directly from the conveyor belt if a sushi item takes your fancy.
But each seat at the counter is also equipped with a tablet, so you can order whatever you like at any time. Both options are available, depending on your preference. Of course, there’s no problem combining the two methods: you can both order via the tablet and pick up plates directly from the conveyor belt, as you wish. It’s important to note that all possible choices are available on the tablet, but as far as the sushi on the conveyor belt is concerned, the assortments are constantly changing. So your favorite topping may never pass you by, even after a long wait. That’s why it’s advisable to place your order via the tablet if you want a particular sushi.

Side dishes include chawanmushi (Japanese savory flan), udon (thick noodles), fries, karaage (Japanese fried chicken) and tempura. For those who prefer to see the sushi pass before them before choosing, this restaurant, where the sushi actually turns on a conveyor belt, is an excellent option to consider. Another special feature of this restaurant is that, depending on the day’s arrivals, it offers fresh wild fish directly from famous fishing grounds across Japan.
This means you can enjoy both classics and rarer varieties, depending on the day’s selection. Perfect for those who want to discover fresh sushi that’s a little out of the ordinary!
