Ikinari Steak - A QUICK AND GENEROUS JAPANESE STEAK MEAL
🥩 Introduction to the chain
Ikinari Steak (いきなりステーキ) is a Japanese restaurant chain specializing in steaks served quickly, at reasonable prices and in generous portions. The name literally means “a steak all at once”, reflecting the idea of a hearty, immediate meal without formality.
Nationwide presence
The chain has expanded rapidly throughout Japan, with establishments in major cities such as Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. In Kyoto, you can find them near the station or in the shopping districts.
What can we eat?
The menu consists mainly of different types of steak (sirloin, ribeye, filet), served by weight (usually 200 g or 300 g). You can also choose your own side dish: rice, corn, onions, green beans, etc. Combo menus and a loyalty system are also available.
Ordering at Ikinari Steak
Depending on the establishment, orders can be placed at the entrance or at the table. Sometimes, customers can even choose their piece of meat at the counter. The steak is then prepared and served quickly on a hot plate, often still sizzling.

Personal experience
Ikinari Steak is a Japanese restaurant chain specializing in quick-serve steaks. Ikinari Steak has numerous locations in shopping malls, particularly in food courts. This concept enables customers to enjoy quality steaks at a reasonable price, in an uncluttered setting, without the need for a reservation.
We went to eat at an Ikinari Steak restaurant near the Sanjo-Kawaramachi crossroads on a weekday in June, just after 1pm. It’s a small establishment located along Kawaramachi Street, but we were able to get in without waiting. The concept of the restaurant is to allow everyone to eat a hearty steak in a simple and accessible way. So it’s not an establishment designed for long relaxation, but rather for a quick, satisfying meal. A few years ago, people ate standing up to make the most of space and reduce prices. Now you can sit on a high stool, choose from the illustrated menu and place your order directly with the staff.
At Ikinari! Steak, the meat used is mainly carefully selected American beef (some products may contain Australian beef). The menu offers a wide choice of value-for-money lunch options. The quantity of meat varies according to the dish chosen, and you can generally select between 150 g, 200 g or 300 g. In combination menus, in addition to the main meat dish, you’ll usually receive rice, salad and soup. Drinks on offer include draught beer, highball, wine by the glass or bottle, as well as various non-alcoholic beverages. Steak is served on a hot plate in less than 10 minutes. Unlike high-end restaurants, you’ll have to cut it yourself with the knives and forks provided on the table. You can enjoy the meat with the sauces also available on the table (American-style mustard…).
We recommend this restaurant when you have a “sudden” craving for a good piece of meat without the fuss and at an affordable price!
