While the drink itself, “kohi”, comes from the English “coffee”, the places are mostly called by the French “café” in Japan. They are a Western counterpart of the Japanese tea houses (kissaten), and focuse on non-alcoholic beuverages (which you will find in bars and izakaya) and sandwichs or Western desserts (clubs, donuts, cookies).
